SW QUEST for Saskatchewan Art & History

Self-Guided Tour 2010

Comfy Beds

Consul Hotel & Cafe
(306 299 2113)
The owners, Ollie and Barb Willberg welcome you to enjoy their outside patio where you can enjoy a cold beer.

There are eight rooms on the second floor of the hotel. If you like the charm of an old-fashioned hotel with no interruptions from ringing telephones and the peace and quiet that comes with the absence of TV, you'll love this hotel! Rates - $20 to $25.00 per night. Eat in the Cafe located on the main floor. Have a cold drink and watch TV in the Saloon. Off-sales are available.

The Hotel has attracted artists from many walks of life. In 1959,  a travelling BC artist Mr. Flexhaug, painted a mural inside the saloon. The photo below shows half of the 4' x 12' foot painting. The Mural will be 50 years old in 2009.

Starting in 1989, as a high school art project, 30 ceiling panels were removed, painted and reinstalled.

As a Centennial Heritage Commemoration Project, a mural was painted on the outside of the hotel by Grant McLaughlin of Moose Jaw. The mural is about The History of Ice Sports in Consul. It is a memorial to "The Rink", where most of the community can be found during the winter months at hockey, figure skating or curling. The Mural was officially unvielled by Her Honour the Honourable Dr. Lynda Haverstock Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan on the 26th of August 2005.
